General
Following the meetings of developers and users at the previous 5 successful real-time Linux workshops held in Vienna, Orlando, Milano, Boston, and Valencia, the Real-Time Linux Workshop for 2004 will come to Asia for the first time, to be held at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Embedded Linux is rapidly gaining traction in the Asia Pacific region. China recently developed two homegrown embedded Linux based smart cellphones. The Consumer Electronics Linux Forum was formed in July 2003, with representatives from major Japanese, Korean, and Chinese companies. The world's largest telecommunication company, based in Japan, recently joined the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) in February 2004.
The preliminary list of papers and the preliminary agenda cover the following areas:
- Modifications and variants of the GNU/Linux operating system
- Contributions and tools around and to real-time Linux variants
- Real-time Linux applications, in academia, research and industry
- Tools for embedding Linux or real-time Linux, embedded real-time Linux applications,
- Work in progress reports
- Educational material on realtime Linux.
Kickstart sessions and a "playground" for general discussions and "show me your code" sessions are offered in parallel to all paper presentations throughout the workshop from Wednesday Nov 3 to Friday Nov 5. All sessions will be held in TO BE ANNOUNCED.
